Amethyst is a semi-precious stone and one of the most beautiful varieties of quartz, which comes in many shades of purple. It owes its beautiful colour to trace amounts of aluminum and iron built into the silicon dioxide it is made of. Amethyst is called the "stone of harmony and relaxation".
